Statement from the Utah Democratic Party on the Dismissal of the Trump Administration’s Lawsuit Seeking Utah Voter Data

SALT LAKE CITY, UT — Utah Democrats welcome today’s federal court ruling dismissing the Trump administration’s lawsuit seeking Utah’s complete voter registration list, including sensitive personal information. The ruling is a victory for Utah voters and a rebuke to an administration that continues to push the limits of its power in pursuit of private voter data.

“Donald Trump does not get to treat the personal information of American voters as his own political property,” said Utah Democratic Party Chair Brian King. “The presidency is not a license to trample our rights, and the American people will not surrender their democracy to satisfy his appetite for power.”

A government that respects democracy protects the people who participate in it. Utahns deserve to know their privacy will be respected, their rights upheld, and their elections kept free from political interference.
