Statement from Chair Brian King on DNC Action to Safeguard Voter Privacy
The Trump Justice Department’s attempt to strong-arm Utah into turning over voters’ private, sensitive information is not about election integrity - it’s about intimidation, voter suppression, and political control. Utah voters did not consent to having their personal data handed over to a presidential administration with a documented history of undermining democracy. Any agreement that enables this kind of data grab puts Utahns at risk and threatens the integrity of our elections far more than it protects them.
Election integrity is critically important, but that integrity must protect voters’ privacy and constitutional rights. Utah’s voter rolls should be maintained transparently by election officials operating under clear legal protections, not leveraged for partisan goals that risk disenfranchisement or wrongful purges.
