
UDP Organizing Director
About the role:
Location: Salt Lake City, Utah, with hybrid flexibility

Reports to: Executive Director
The Organizing Director builds and leads a statewide program that grows county parties and caucuses, supports candidates, and delivers field results. This role owns voter registration, persuasion, GOTV, ballot chase and cure, and the volunteer pipeline. The director manages organizing staff and interns, partners with county and caucus leaders, the Mobilization Committee, and runs Election Day operations and voter protection workflows in coordination with legal counsel.
What You Will Do:
County, Caucus and Candidate Support
Coach county parties, caucuses, and House District Chairs on growth plans, meeting structure, and leadership pipelines
Run candidate services, training, and office hours, including playbooks and checklists
Deliver compliance training for staff, counties, and caucuses in partnership with the Treasurer and counsel
Other duties as assigned
Field Programs and Operations
Plan and execute Voter Registration, persuasion, GOTV, and ballot cure
Own field operations, including scripts, targeting, reporting, and turf
Build a rural outreach plan and travel support for staff and volunteers
Stand up volunteer leadership ladders, including House District officers, precinct chairs,and delegates
Manage Mobilize, events, shift scheduling, confirmations, and retention
Coordinate with coalition partners to expand field program reach
Data, Tools and Technology
Oversee day-to-day use of VAN and NGP, including list strategy and permissions in partnership with Political Director, Data, and Tech
Deploy Mobilize/NGP/VAN links for organizing events where needed, coordinate with Development
Manage texting tools, dialers, and CallTime tools as they relate to organizing programs
Produce weekly dashboards and campaign-ready reports
Voter Protection and Election Administration
Run the voter hotline with intake, triage, and resolution tracking
Recruit poll observers, manage coverage, and communications
Lead ballot cure and provisional chase, serve as the election admin liaison
Stand up the Election Day operations center, manage incident response, and after-action reports
Coordinate legal rapid response with the Executive Director, legal, and Communications Manager
Management and Cross-Team Work
Hire, train, and manage organizers, interns, and volunteers
Set goals, KPIs, and weekly cadence, run retros and after-actions
Coordinate rapid response and messaging with Communications Manager and Political Director
Partner with the Events and Development Manager on volunteer recruitment and stewardship
Core Deliverables
Statewide organizing plan with quarterly targets and county-level goals
Playbooks for candidate services, caucus growth, and volunteer leadership
Script library and targeting briefs for voter registration, persuasion, and GOTV
Ballot cure SOP with timelines, roles, and escalation paths
Election Day operations plan and ops center runbook
Weekly field dashboard and monthly organizing memo
Post-election after-action report with lessons and next steps
Collaboration
Works closely with the Executive Director, Political Director, Communications Manager, and Executive Committee leadership
Collaborates with the Coordinated Campaign Director and seasonal interns
Partners with county parties, caucuses, candidates, and community organizations
What You Bring
4 or more years in political organizing or campaign management with staff supervision
Proven track record running Voter Registration, persuasion, GOTV, and ballot cure at scale
Experience coaching local leaders and candidates, comfort in training rooms and on Zoom
Expertise with VAN and NGP, Mobilize, texting platforms, and dialers
Strong data habits, including targeting logic, QA, and clear reporting
Knowledge of Utah election rules or ability to become fluent quickly
Excellent project management, clear writing, and calm execution under pressure
Discretion and ability to work independently.
Willingness to travel throughout Utah (as needed).
Nice to Have
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Management, Political Science, or related field
Legislative or caucus communications experience
Utah organizing experience or established local relationships
Experience running observer programs or hotlines
Spanish or another language common in Utah communities
Familiarity with accessibility best practices for events and materials
Schedule & Work Environment
Full-time with some evenings and weekends required during peak periods.
Hybrid work model with regular in-person collaboration at UDP headquarters..
Salary & Benefits
The salary for this position is $65,000-$69,000, depending on experience
