Utah Democratic Party Chair Brian King on One Big, Beautiful Bill, just passed by the U.S. Senate

SALT LAKE CITY, UT – Brian King, Chair of the Utah Democratic Party, released the following statement following the Senate’s passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill:

“The Senate just passed President Trump’s so-called ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act’, a name as misleading as the bill itself. Let’s be clear: this is the largest transfer of wealth to the top 1% in American history. It is the single biggest addition to our national debt ever. And for what? To gut healthcare, bankrupt rural hospitals, raise premiums by tens of thousands of dollars for middle-class families, and kick 17 million Americans off their coverage entirely.

“This bill would slash SNAP benefits by 30%, meaning 2 million children could lose their access to food assistance. It would eliminate Pell Grants for millions of students, making college even more out of reach for working families. It would raise your energy bills while increasing the likelihood of blackouts, and turn ICE into the largest law enforcement agency in the nation.

“If you're asking who this is for, you're not alone. It's not for Utahns. It's not for working families. It's not for rural communities or college students or anyone trying to build a better future for themselves or their kids. Republicans and Democrats alike are sounding the alarm. Because this bill is not about policy, it’s about power. And it comes at the expense of almost everyone in this country.

“If our congressional representatives have any courage, ethics, or heart left in them, they must vote no. And we must demand that they do. This bill isn’t just bad policy. It’s cruel, reckless, and deeply un-American.

“Representatives Moore, Owens, Maloy, and Kennedy: our Senators have already failed us. Now it’s your turn to decide whether you’ll follow blindly or stand up for the people you were elected to serve. This is your opportunity to show Utahns that you represent them, not just the president or party leadership. The ball is in your court. Don’t let us down. And if you do, we’ll make sure your constituents remember exactly where you stood.”
